Role Summary

As a Senior Radiochemist at Astral, you will engage in cutting-edge medical radionuclide development enabled by Astral’s fusion-based neutron source technology. You will help drive real-world health  impact long before a fusion power plant is plugged into the grid. Your work will directly accelerate advancements in the generation of medical radionuclides and enhancing the accessibility and affordability of cancer diagnostics and treatments in the UK and, eventually, worldwide.

 

Key Responsibilities

Design and conduct complex experiments using radioactive substances to understand their properties and behaviours.

Develop and refine processes for isolating and measuring radioactive materials.

Operate and maintain specialised analytical test  instruments such as spectrometers, radiation detectors and chromatographs.

Adhere to strict safety and quality protocols to handle hazardous materials safely.

Analyse experimental data and present findings in scientific papers and reports.

Assess and monitor the environmental impact of radioactive substances.

Manage the build-up and correct disposal of radioactive substances and laboratory waste.

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on radionuclide production projects.

Problem-solve creatively and effectively, taking initiative as required.

Train on and adhere to stringent safety protocols, such as IRR-17, in a laboratory environment.

Undertake manual handling training (provided as part of the role).

Procure materials, consumables, and other items needed for the laboratory or office.

Travel to scientific conferences, meetings, or collaboration partners as required.

 

Qualifications & Attributes

PhD in Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Physics, or a related scientific discipline.

At least 5 years of experience post PhD working in a radiochemistry field

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Commitment to safety and quality compliance with relevant regulatory standards.

Willingness to travel and participate in professional development activities.

Manual handling and safety training will be provided and is essential.

Working Arrangements

On-Site, 3 days minimum per week in Office, Bristol/Gloucestershire Based
